The largest planted aquarium will be revealed to the public at the end of this month. At 40 meters long, 2.5 metres wide and 1.5 metre high it is not surprising that it was the renowned Takashi Amano who accepted the challenge.

The aquarium is sure to be a striking piece of art and can be admired at Lisboa’s Oceanarium in Portugal. The project was visualised by Mr. João Falcato, the director of Oceanarium, who is a true fan of Takashi Amano’s work. For the layout of the tank, a large team of international aquarists trained by Takashi Amano contributed.

The tank is designed in a “U” shape and contains 160000 litre of freshwater and a diversity of tropical freshwater plants and aquatic life. As with any Takashi Amano work, the accent is on the layout and the plants rather than the fish. The driftwood are the focus and form imposing and well organised groups, covered by moss or other plants.

This impressive aquarium is a “must see” for anyone with a passion for planted aquariums and Nature.

A video of the palnted aquarium can be found here
