The Wolf of Wall Street Aquarium

  • The Wolf of Wall Street Aquarium

    January 2014

If you haven’t seen Martin Scorsese’s latest film The Wolf of Wall Street, go see it!

Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, it traces the wicked lavish success story and crime-ridden downfall of New York stockbroker Jordan Belfort. With amazing performances, the film is outstanding, entertaining, action-packed and a definite must see.

Keep an eye out for the 2.4 metre saltwater office aquarium installed for the ‘Swiss Banker’ scene! Looking minimalist but fantastic, the aquarium was commissioned for the suave Swiss banker’s desk backdrop amongst the luxurious decor of his office. Home to a mixture of Regal and Pacific Tangs, Angelfish and many more, the Golden Puffer aquarium was certainly a favourite amongst the film crew.

Whilst the film is mostly a work of fiction, in reality we have many clients who work in the financial industry with high interests in aquariums. Perhaps a power thing? The film’s aquarium, set in Switzerland, is very representative of our commercial installations in London and Manhattan, New York. We have noticed that most people looking for luxury aquariums are based in the big cities around the world which makes us think that aquariums are a way for them to connect with the nature, helping them escape from the hectic life and being something they can manage without too much involvement. Fish aquariums with exquisite corals, beautiful colours, live rock and other marine creatures, are the most popular pet among the rich and the powerful.

Aquarium’s really became the ‘in thing’ in films after our first installation for the creative industry on the set of Mission Impossible. Unfortunately we weren’t around for the James Bond film in the 60’s, but if we had been, we surely would have sunken our jaws into it! An aquarium not only can be a focus point in the house, or in a commercial building, but can even create an unforgettable scene in a movie.
