If your loved one owns a saltwater or a freshwater tropical aquarium, an addition to the fish tank could be the best Christmas present. Have a look at our top five rare fish any aquarium lover would want to have:

Platinum Arowana also called White Arowana is every freshwater fish keeper’s dream! The extremely rare fish is virtually white with no other colours present on its body and it is said to bring good luck. The Platinum Arowana is the most expensive fish in the world and as a result, some of them have an ID chip to prove its authenticity. The Platinum Arowana has a high IQ and even distinguishes the person that takes care of him. Prices start at £20,000. If this is out of your budget, Silver Arowana is the most common and affordable Arowana available in the hobby.

Clarion Angelfish, the stunning sparkly orange fish that every saltwater fish keeper loves. Clarion Angelfish are rare and expensive and has a restricted distribution with the 99% of population found in Revillagigedo Islands. In addition, you are also required a special permit from the Mexican Government to collect them. The flawless beauties are the epitome of orange and have electric blue stripes and highlights. The Clarion Angelfish is hardy and makes excellent addition to a saltwater aquarium if you are willing to pay the money.

Argentine Pearlfish males become more striking in colour as they mature making them very desirable. The males are extremely striking, having a navy blue to black body and fins, peppered with pearly-white spots and a bright blue-green band running across the dorsal fin. They have limited availability being on the more expensive side.

Inhabiting deeper waters, below 30m, Gem Tang, also known as the Spotted Tang is hardly ever seen in the aquarium trade and is a must have for rare fish collectors. The beautiful Gem Tang has white spots all over its black body and bright yellow tail. In an aquarium will definitely steal the spotlight and is best to keep only one of these breed, as they are aggressive to each other.

Another striking Tang is Black Longnose Tang and it’s originally from the Christmas Island. Perfect as a Christmas present, isn’t it? This Tang has a jet-black velvety body with blue pectoral fins, and a prominent white spot near the tail. Less is more with the fabulous Black Longnose Tang. The Black Longnose Tang is also rather rare in the trade and more expensive than other species.

Hope you enjoyed our list but bear in mind there are thousands of cool fish to choose from.
