Unusual Fish For Luxury Custom Aquariums

Prospect Magazine approached Aquarium Architecture to ask why young men are paying a fortune to “aqua-scape” their indoor fish tanks—and parting with up to £250,000 for a single unusual fish. Prospect is a go to title for the ideas and trends behind the headlines and for a contrarian view of topics.

In the interview, Roland, our creative director, talks about the complexity of creating a healthy environment as well as the passion our clients have for the tank inhabitants, always on the look for the most beautiful addition. An interesting aspect of fish keeping is creating and maintaining a balanced eco system. For example, when the tank is new, before the fish selected by the clients are added, a batch of test fish, or “suicide” how they are called in the article, are introduced. This is important in order to test the water and stabilise the tank. It would be indeed a catastrophe to add in a £250,000 unusual fish in an unbalanced environment.

It was also noticed by the industry that aquariums are becoming more popular than ever with men being the ones that are the most interested in installing a custom fish tank in their residence and one explanation is that aquariums have everything: art, science, nature and are a true gadget that the owner can “play” with.
