Mini Coral Reef
June 2011
We are delighted to announce a new addition to our portfolio, something quite different, quite unique and incredibly difficult.
After hearing about our upcoming installation at the Frieze Art Fair, Aquarium Architecture have been commissioned to install a ‘mini coral reef’ housing only small aquatic creatures in Manhattan, New York. We are particularly delighted to have been chosen for this installation as the client has given us rare scope to create something visionary to reflect the contemporary cultural trends of the moment. The installation will house only animals from the Red Sea and tiny pieces of natural live rock.
Mini coral reef aquariums present unique challenges due to the small space available. The size of the usable space needs to be determined right from the beginning in order to plan the live rock and the corals without making the aquarium to look cluttered.
In addition, choosing the corals has its constraints in a mini coral reed. We recommend selecting more hardy and relatively slow-growing corals. However, even with some limitation, the aquarium can be a show stopping tank! Playing with colours and different textures is very important.
